Welcome to a new episode of the Podcast Learn Spanish Fast with Borja Sprintalk. Today we are going to deal with a very interesting, curious and at the same time mysterious topic. In order to learn a language and improve your listening comprehension faster, it is important to listen to interesting information (a podcast for example). If you want to learn Spanish quickly, you should not only listen to Spanish, but the information you listen to should also be interesting to you. If you listen to the news in Spanish, but you are not really interested in the information, then you will not learn quickly because your brain is not interested in what you are listening to. 

Bienvenido a un nuevo episodio del podcast Learn Spanish Fast with Borja Sprintalk. Hoy vamos a tratar un tema muy interesante, curioso y a la vez misterioso. Y es que, para aprender un idioma y mejorar la comprensión auditiva de manera más rápida, es importante escuchar información interesante (un podcast por ejemplo). Si quieres aprender español de forma rápida, no solo debes escuchar español, sino que, además, la información que escuches debe ser interesante para ti. Si escuchas las noticias en español, pero, en realidad, no te interesa la información, entonces no aprenderás rápido porque tu cerebro no muestra interés por lo que escuchas. 

On the other hand, when you listen to information that interests you (stories, events, or other topics) and you only know the meaning of 60% or 70% of the words you hear in that information, your brain will make an extra effort and try to understand all the information; it will pay more attention and try to deduce the meaning of the words it doesn’t know. By being interested in the information, the brain will make an extra effort to understand everything, filling in the gaps in meaning. 

Por otro lado, cuando escuchas información que te interesa (historias, eventos, u otros temas) y además en esa información solo conoces el significado del 60% o 70% de las palabras que escuchas, el cerebro realizará un esfuerzo extra e intentará comprender toda la información; pondrá más atención e intentará deducir el significado de las palabras que no conoce. Al estar interesado en la información, el cerebro hará un esfuerzo extra para comprender todo, rellenando los “gaps” de significado. 

Therefore, if you want to learn quickly and you want to improve your comprehension, when listening to a podcast it is vital that these two conditions are met:

1- The information itself must be interesting for you.

2- The level of difficulty of the language used must be slightly higher than your level of proficiency in that language. You must master 60% of what you listen to. 

Por eso, si quieres aprender rápido y quieres mejorar tu comprensión, cuando escuchas un podcast es vital la existencia de estas dos condiciones:

1- La información en sí debe ser interesante para ti

2- El nivel de dificultad del idioma empleado debe ser ligeramente superior a tu nivel de dominio de esa lengua. Debes dominar un 60% de lo que escuchas.
